The ensemble brings together twelve musicians from Germany and Greece, including students from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, and the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. During a week of rehearsals in Horto, the musicians will explore selected works by Charles Mingus, with a particular focus on his landmark 1963 suite The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady—a continuous composition originally conceived as a ballet and widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in jazz orchestration.
The project is supported by the Goethe-Institut.
