Horto Festival 2025

    3-10 July: Theatre Seminar “Genetic Memory”, by director, choreographer and actress Sanja Krsmanovic Tasic.

    July 9: “Whispers of the unsung past” final performance of the theatre seminar.

    12 July: Tribute to the composer Nikos Kypourgos. In the presence of the composer we will rediscover the music from his albums Secrets of the Garden, Lillipoupoli and the music he composed for films and theatre. The choir and orchestra of the Volos Music School, the Mixed Choir of Agria and the Hortodia will participate.

    16-27 July: Music Seminar “Flute, Bassoon and Piano time” with daily individual and group lessons, lectures and concerts.

    July 19: Concert performed by the Seminar Instructors.

    July 26: Concert performed by the Seminar Participants.

    25-27 July: “Games” workshop for children.

    July 27: Young adventurers are invited to participate in a one-hour workshop in the Open Air Theatre in which wooden spinning tops will be designed and constructed. This will be followed by Dimitris Baslam who will narrate stories of a renegade bandit (in Greek) and accompany the stories with his guitar.

    28 July: The Labyrinth Choir is a US based choral ensemble that performs acapella music and, as part of their tour in Greece, they will perform a variety of secular and religious music by 20th and 21st century composers.

    August 2: Jazz quartet NBQ. A tribute to Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.

    3-16 August: “Cinema in the Garden” is a collaboration with Cinobo. Selected films will be screened starting on August 3 with a silent film accompanied by live music by jazz pianist and improviser Stathis Anninos. On August 16 the documentary film Cell by Zetti Fitsiou will be screened in the presence of the film contributors.

    August 6: Chamber Music is a concert for voice, cello and piano featuring works by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Bellini and Verdi and performed by Eurydice Novak (soprano), Alexandros Kasartzi (cello) and George Galiatsos (piano) in the George Hadjinikos Hall, Horto.

    August 9: The Birds is a modern revival of Aristophanes’ play by the French theatre company TANT PIS POUR LA GLYCIN. The director is Charron François and there will be Greek and English surtitles.

    August 13: MediTerra, a musical tribute to the music of the Mediterranean performed by Teti Kassioni (voice), Giorgos Athanasiou (guitar), Stavros Parginos (cello) and Dimos Vougioukas (accordion).

    August 17: A tribute tothe composer Manos Hadjidakis on the 100th anniversary of his birth. George Allamanis will present (in Greek) his research on Hadjidakis’ life and the documentary film “Idol in the Mirror” about Hadjidakis’ will be screened in the presence of the director Dimitris Vernikos. Opening time: 20:00.

    August 23: Recital of music on the themes of love and nature performed by Franziska Niewind (soprano) and Panos Galanopoulos (piano).

    August 24: “Fairy Tales… Drops of Wisdom” Katerina Theodorou and Achilleas Toloudis will tell fairy tales (in Greek and English) for adults and play music.

    August 30: “Wanderings on the Paths of Greek Music” concert with Vassilis Agrokostas, Zafiris Koukouselis and their artistic team who will sing and play a diversity of musical instruments. 

    31 August – 6 September: “Hortus Canticus 2025” is 7-day choral course under the direction of Philipp Amelung who is the conductor of the University of Tübingen choir and other choirs in Greece and Europe. 

    September 6: Hortus Canticus 2025 Final Concert: Works by Bach, Tallis, Isaak, Schütz, Brahms, Stanford, Tippett will be performed in the Open Air Theatre. 

    September 21: Lunchtime piano recital with Apostolos Palios. 

    25 – 28 September: Early Music Workshop with Nikos Panagiotidis and Jörg Meder.

    28 September: Final lunchtime concert of Early Music performed by the workshop participants. 

    All events will take place in the Open Air Theatre in Horto and start at 21:00 unless otherwise announced. For ticketed events, pre-sale starts 10 days before the event via more.com and 1 hour before the concert starts at the door. More information: www.horto.net.     This year’s festival is co-organized with the Municipality of South Pelion, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and specifically the Cinema in the Garden action in co-organization with the Region of Thessaly and the support of the Municipality of South Pelion.
